In Days of Heatwave
Installation view of work by Ela Kazdal and Fusée-Fusée.
In Days of Heatwave was an exhibition curated in collaboration between Yarden Fudim and Emre Ataman during October 2023 in Hartslane, London.
It was the beginning of an artists network, in response to being a young student artist during highly unprecedented times of climate change as its impact on all life on Earth is becoming an alarming reality of our everyday lives.
In the first debut exhibition, we observe a wide range of topics from market-economy-informed human ingenuity and its consequences in relation to our planetary boundaries, to a yearning for pastoral imagery in some of the artworks. For the 8 artists exhibiting, Emre Ataman, Zoe Biagini-Jones, Yarden Fudim, Fusée-Fusée, Ela Kazdal, Harrison Lambert, Oli Mardon and Lucia Russo nature an sustainability have been at the centre of their art practices for years.
In days of flash floods, rising sea levels, vast extinction of species, scorching heat waves, and a lack of political willpower to change and tackle the systems that fuel this crisis, we have felt that it was imperative to vocalise some of the concerns and issues surrounding our relationship with the planet through art, in addition to creating a sense of community and support among young artists who share similar concerns. The project continues, lead by Emre Ataman and Oli Mardon.
